A customer sought to solve a random timing in-feed application. At a particular point in the process, the products enter a conveyor in a non-repeatable (random timing) fashion. These products; however, must leave the conveyor perfectly spaced to properly perform the next step in the operation. Three different conveyors are used:
A) An in-feed conveyor on which the products are randomly placed
B) A correction conveyor (short) properly spaces the products
C) An exit conveyor that includes dividers (confirms that products are properly spaced)

  • Constant monitoring to ensure synchronization during each cycle

Motion Control Requirements:

  • Linear motion
  • Accurate line speed control
  • Fixed phase relationship
  • Servo motor control

Application Solution:

In this application, two sensors that have a fixed phase relationship are used. One sensor is located on the junction between the in-feed conveyor and the correction conveyor and the other on the exit conveyor. The first sensor detects the product and the other detects the locations of the dividers. Application Solution:
